This past summer we were blessed to be able to travel to Arusha, Tanzania to spend a month there helping to spread the word of God. The purpose of our trip was to see first hand the amazing work that we had heard was being done through the Andrew Connally School of Preaching (ACSOP) in the area around Arusha. While there, we were greatly impressed and encouraged by the work that we saw at the school, the attached farm and the evangelism in the area. ACSOP is a preacher training school that is overseen by the Bear Valley church of Christ of Denver, Colorado. We fell in love with the work being done around the Arusha area and the Christians who are there making it happen. Our boys (6 and 4 years old) enjoyed our time there greatly as fun and smiles translate well into any language!
Before we left for Tanzania, and while we were there, we prayed earnestly that God would show us how we could most be used to help this work. Upon our return to our home state of Georgia, we were fairly certain that we knew the answer to our prayers. After many more long prayers to God and many emails, we have decided that God has opened the door for us to move to Arusha to help with the work being done there.
Our work would include helping the school become more self sustaining with expansion of the farm, working in the local schools weekly on the days that they welcome congregations in to teach the gospel, working with a specific congregation to help them grow in maturity in whatever ways God opens for us to help and also to help organize/transport groups who come from the United States to work in the area. We are committing to three years right now.
We ask for your prayers as we work towards this new beginning. Prayers for wisdom are coveted. We are selling our farm animals and many of our other belongings here but we will not be able to create enough funds to support ourselves monthly from those sales. We ask that if you would be willing and able to be a part of this great work that you would consider helping us by becoming a monthly contributor to the work.
If you can help with any of our funding needs, there are two ways you can donate!
You can send funds to our overseeing congregation at:
Bear Valley Bible Institute International: 2707 S. Lamar Street; Denver, CO 80227.
Please make sure you earmark it – DUNCAN FAMILY – TZ.
You can even set it up through your bank in the “bill pay” option to send a check monthly if that is easier for you! 🙂
OR
We also have a paypal set up: paypal.me/pbduncan20
We are so excited about this work and we ask that you please keep us in your prayers! ![]()
Hi Bekah, I am friends with Kelly Erdman here in Arusha and saw your recent Facebook post on her timeline about your plans to move to Tanzania. Through the wonders of the Internet, I managed to find your blog and read a bit more about your family and your plans. I also live in Arusha with my husband Kakasii (who is Tanzanian) and our five children. Our two youngest, Max and Elly, are 6-year-old twins. I’m originally from Nebraska but lived in Baltimore for several years before making the permanent move to Tanzania. I blog (rather sporadically) over at http://www.thejoyoflifeislove.com about our adventures living in Tanzania.
I just wanted to stop by and introduce myself and welcome you to Arusha! I hope all goes well with your work and resident permits, and that everything continues to progress for your move in August. I hope we’ll get a chance to meet once you arrive here. Karibu sana!
